Rosacea
This is a long-term skin disorder that never goes away, but does come in relapses. Which means it comes and goes, and is sometimes worse than other times. There are different types of Rosacea, meaning that it has a lot of different symptoms you should know. The most common symptoms are facial flushing and redness, raised red bumps, and skin sensitivity. The cause of the skin disorder is unknown, but what we do know is what the disorder can trigger. Things you should skip or pay attention to are spicy foods, alcohol, sunlight, stress, and extreme temperatures.
Lichen planus
This is a slightly lesser-known, but also common, skin disorder. Lichen planus is a disease of the skin and/or mucous membranes – in the mouth or genitalia. Just with the previous disorders, the main cause is unknown, but they do know that lichen planus is some kind of autoimmune disease. This means that in this case, the immune system attacks its skin and mucous membranes.
Probable causes of the autoimmune disease are heredity, viruses, medicines, Dental materials, such as dental fillings, and contact allergy. Symptoms of lichen planus are shiny and fat bumps in the color purple or reddish-purplish, itching, hair loss, brittle, or split nails, and difficulty eating. This depends on the course of what the autoimmune disease affects. Once the spot is healed they will, most likely, leave darker areas on the skin.
Scabies
This is a skin disorder caused by unwelcome “houseguests”. Scabies is caused by a very small creature called Sarcoptes scabiei. This is an eight-legged mite that loves to nest into the top layer of your skin. Your body and skin aren’t very happy with its new guests, so they react by getting very red and extremely itching skin. Scabies is highly contagious and spreads from person to person via (long) body contact or infected furniture, clothing, and bedding.
Scabies spread throughout the whole body, so they can be between your fingers, but also on your buttocks or genitalia. Symptoms of the skin disorder are red and itchy skin and a scabies rash – which is a pimple-like rash. Treatment for scabies is prescribed medication, like ointments, creams, and lotions to treat the skin. The manifestation of scabies can take up to 5 weeks after being infected. If you’ve had it before, it only takes a few days before you see the first symptoms appear.
It’s important to always seek medical treatment, when you suffer – or think you suffer – from a skin disorder. Your healthcare provider will take a good look at you, exam your symptoms, set the right diagnosis, and start an effective treatment plan. There are so many types of skin disorders, that the ones we have discussed are just the tip of the iceberg. That’s why it’s important to do your online research first.
