Statistics predict that by the end of next year there will be close to 3 billion smartphone users. This fact is not only interesting from the point of view of technological progress, but also from a psychological perspective. This is because the way we handle, operate and navigate our smartphones can reveal many personal characteristics. Mobile phone movement patterns say a lot about your personality type, according to researchers who used accelerometer data – the small sensors that track the phone’s movements for step-counting and other apps – to predict people’s personality.
“Activities such as how fast or how far we walk, or when we pick up our phones at night, are often the result of certain behavioural patterns and these patterns say a lot about our personality type,” says Flora Salim, Associate Professor at RMIT University in Australia, in the study published in the magazine IEEE Explore. It has been proven that physical activity has a strong correlation with the human personality. Look at the image above and choose the way you usually hold and operate your smartphone.
